Change the Internship Training Category
Any change of category must be closely related to the purpose of the original programme, and is due to unusual or special circumstances. It’s the student’s responsibility to submit the change enquiry to EastWest programme officer. The officer will take the relevant supporting documents and written request to the State Department. The State Department will charge USD246 non-refundable handling fee
Insurance
Participants and their J-2 accompanied relatives (spouse and offspring under 21 years old) must buy the minimum protection medical insurance stated on the programme.
Transfer
If student wants to transfer from one programme to another programme (sponsor) which both of the programmes are in the same category, the responsible officer may exercise discretion to approve. The officer will verify the student’s visa and the legitimacy, and issue new Form DS-2019 to reflect this transfer. Not all categories are allowed to transfer, and the transfer does not extend the maximum period of the programme. Students are required to provide all transfer inquiries to the responsible officer
Programme Recovery
Recovery programme when it is necessary:
- Progamme is terminated because of some reasons;
- Participant overstay in USA beyond the programme date stated on Form DS-2019.
Category for recovering visitor status after breaching the regulations:
1.Minor or technical regulation breaching: which is regarded as a “record modification”, the responsible
officer can do the adjustment himself/ herself without prior authorization from the State Department:
- Extend the programme before the expiry date on Form DS-2019;
- Proceed programme transfer before the expiry date on Form DS-2019;
- In receive remuneration or other allowed activities, received approval before I pay the revised form.
２。Substantive, need authorization from the Sate Department before adjustment.
- If participant is a student and cannot keep the effective programme status 120 days after the expiry date on Form DS-2019;
- No prior request to the responsible officer (or approval), the participant cannot maintain the programme.
３.Non-recovered
The programme cannot be recovered for containing the below violations:
- Intentionally and knowingly does not meet the insurance requirements;
- Unauthorized employment;
- The recent exchange programme is suspended or terminated involuntary;
- Cannot maintain an effective programme status more than 270 days;
- State Department proposes abolition of the application according to the Immigration Law;;
Applicant’s Guarantee:
- Civil service jobs;
- Real estate guarantee, it will be withdrawn when applicant returns to his/ her country;
- Cash of RMB100,000, it will be returned when applicant returns to his/ her country
- Signed Guarantee contracts (see Appendix)
Note: Applicants must meet one of the above points.
Travel Grace Period:
As the program ends, a 30-day travel 'grace period' stated on DS-2019 is allowed by Immigration and Naturalization Service. During that time student can travel within USA and cannot go to other countries. Because J-1 visa will be invalid immediately and cannot re-enter USA. |
